THE BAG SNATCHERS & TOO MANY CREEPS PRESENT :

In a city still half lost in a ten-year hangover of the hedonism of their most famous sons, Manchester has slowly been cultivating the future Children of Nuggets. Stepping beyond the boundaries and constraints of their forefathers, the underground rock n roll scene is now ready to raise its head above the parapet and firmly stamp its identity in the history and fabric of the city. Bringing together the best new bands in the city, nay, the country, we bring you…

THE TWISTED CIRCUS

Over the last two years THE VIPERS have cemented themselves in the epicentre of this new music scene, bringing together the finest rock n roll bands from across the city, country and beyond to their Club Cavaral and Disco Apocalypso nights. With their tales of future Orwellian dystopias, backed by the sound of a duel bass juggernaut, The Vipers have carved out a unique niche that is now drawing in those hell bent on setting the clock back to zero. Joined by new adoptees of the city, THE DEAD SCHOOL, with their brand of swing garage, the two bands have stepped forward and put their necks on the line to pull together a night that will celebrate and propel this new scene to the masses.

With a nod to the old guard, KID VOODOO, whose own monthly club night has long provided a rock n roll haven, will be blasting through their sleazy rockabilly tales like a runaway train. Meanwhile, THE WITCHES, the freshest faces in the scene, have successfully crafted their own blend of psychotic garage for the masses. Adding even more twist to the circus we have KURT DIRT & THE LOVERATS, rock n roll transvestitism at its very best.

But this is no colloquial clique. Having played relentlessly up and down the country, burning their retinas out under the strip lights of the toilet circuit, The Vipers and The Dead School boys have discovered burgeoning underground rock n roll scenes in every city. JON JONES & THE BEATNIKS MOVEMENT, hosts of Bradford’s Rockers & Rollers club night, will be crossing the hills to bring Manchester a set of their full on noisecore, while Exeter’s KUTOSIS will kick of the night with their gob-in-the-face angular pop punk.

Manchester stalwarts and ardent supporters of the Manchester music scene, FICTIONNONFICTION, are stopping by to DJ their eclectic mix of garage, blues and general rockings and rollings, as well as The Hyperjax’s very own LIAM REVENGE, seeing the night safely through to the small hours.

Kicking off at 4 in the afternoon with a screening of the lost MC5 documentary, A TRUE TESTIMONIAL, The Twisted Circus is a must for everyone who dreams of shedding the shackles of relentless revivalism and the now tired adolescent kitchen sink drama musings of recent years.

More than an ego-massaging, chest-beating extravaganza, the night will be run in aid of local website, manchestermusic.co.uk, whose recent financial strife is putting their future at risk. Having supported the Manchester music scene for the last decade without prejudice, spite or bandwagon jumping, this, the premier resource for Manchester’s musicians and music lovers alike, now needs the help of those they have supported for so long. The Vipers and The Dead School are stepping up.

MANCHESTERMUSIC.CO.UK

The promoters of this event have kindly decided to use it to fundraise for ManchesterMusic.Co.Uk - the webzine is the perfect example of pioneering early adopters embracing two things : The entire concept of DIY and the pioneering utilisation of the web as a community facility and a review medium - established in 1999, the site created the concept of regular, published internet reviews (1999), the Webzine / Label / Clubnight concept  (2000), purchasable secure MP3 downloads (2000), community web music forums (1999) plus much more. It pre-dated The Blog, MySpace, NME On-line, The Fly, Drowned In Sound, BBC On-Line, ManchesterOnline etc.

With a unique visitor count of 100-125k and between 1.5-2 million hits each Month, MM continues to provide a platform for new music, with a complete independence from the music industry economy and far from the influence of those controlling it. MM at its inception was at least two years ahead of the multi-million pound web media industry. MM is run legally and entirely transparently as a non-profit organisation with content contributions entirely from volunteers.

The website and the whole MM operation costs at least £2000 per annum to run modestly (web / server / mail / promotion costs) without ever remunerating or re-imbursing any one involved in providing the service.

During 2009 - the site's 10th Anniversary - MM will embark on a series of fundraising events, but to help us through the Winter, the TWISTED CIRCUS is the perfect event to help us on our way. Our thanks go to Saki, The Bag Snatchers & Too Many Creeps, all the bands and people involved in this event and all well wishers and those offering other pledges of support so far, with a special mention to Nathan from the Vipers for kick starting the whole thing - bless you all...
