Boz Boorer needs little introduction, but here we have a softer side to his output, although “Painkillers” is far from restrained. A multi-layered acoustic guitar strums out solid chords, spliced with folky angst and rock and roll chord structures. Alex Lusty (Who Shot Who?) then applies his post-punk poetry. It’s partly rapped and rammed with rock culture / kitchen sink anecdotes – it’s a kind of cross between The Streets and Ewan MacColl soothing down steaming mosh pit.
