Newcastle's Kansaburns rip out the noise limiters with this uncompromising slash and burn outing. “Against The Grain” combines classic modern rock with bursts of tempo, smothered in exciting shockwaves of crumbling guitar chords. At times these seem barely able to support their own weight. There’s a taste for the theatrical but this burns through as multi-layered spikes of chainsaw guitar and pretty bloody middle mêlées. There’s also a bit of a shanty to back this up, which shows off the bands ‘softer side’ - but even that ends up with a bit of angry spit flying out, before pumping up the guitars. Energetic and satisfyingly measured epic new rock and roll from the NE.
