EVENT:
manchestermusic.co.uk
presents : ‘3x3’
VENUE:
the roadhouse, Newton
Street, Manchester – September 2002
“Why can’t we play
CHAIRSMISSING???!!” went the angry mob outside the drawbridge of Soviet Towers
– well, we can fix it for them – well at least a few, via the latest events
from manchestermusic.co.uk.
‘3 x 3’ is therefore born – a limited series of three gigs, featuring at least three local acts, with FREE entry. Expect the usual CM style trimmings, vibe and punchy sets, running through September 2002.
Tuesday 3rd September 2002 – The Roadhouse - FREE
3x3 (#1) ELECTRO - Roger, Bynatone, DoubleJo(HN)Grey,
Somewhere Outside Tokyo and Music Is Better DJ’s
Electro crossovers,
ROGER, fresh from their G:Percussion appearance, bring with them a flavour of
their acclaimed ‘Music Is Better’ night : they also celebrate the release of their new 12" vinyl
single, "Give Me Love or A Brand New Car".
BYNATONE (“The Future
Sound of Denton…”) are currently setting
Manchester alight with one of the classiest electronic records of 2002,
“Starchaser” - already being spun dizzily on Lamacqs turntable.
Minusmoney
electroclash stars DOUBLEJO(HN)GREY provide street fighting punk synth sounds
(Suicide Vs The Damned Vs The Streets.
SOMEWHERE OUTSIDE TOKYO are the masters of the leftfield underground,
mixing live drum n bass beats with distinctly dark and scary electronica. “drop in , freak out, go home”
Tuesday 17rd September 2002 – The Roadhouse -
FREE
3x3 (#2) ROCK – Flawed, The Cardinals,
Little Plato, The Maker and manchestermusic DJ’s
Hanging onto the coat
tails of In The City, four of Manchester’s finest rock acts combine to mix
melodies with finely crafted guitars. FLAWED have just been to Glastonbury,
been on terrestrial TV and prove that you can mix angst with a good tune. THE
CARDINALS are the masters of soaring anthems, inspiring guitars and stunning
voices to match. LITTLE PLATO like their peers, know how to rock and deliver impressive
21st century guitar pop. THE MAKER on the back of their stunning
debut independent release have also been down on Eaves’ farm this year,
delivering more guitar driven tunes,
switching from chartability to brash workouts with devilish ease.
Sunday 22nd September 2002 – The Roadhouse – FREE
3x3 (#3) METAL – Beecher, [Missed Her
Bliss], August, Send More Paramedics (Leeds), plus British Tractor Alliance
DJs
Just when you thought
its safe, we attempt once again to sully the Lords Day with four helpings of
dangerous sounds – AUGUST tread the line between energetic trad-rock and the
excitement of West Coast post grunge power punk. [MISSED HER BLISS] will insist
that small children and pets are kept indoors as their pulverising sounds aim
to damage all with a six mile radius. SEND MORE PARAMEDICS are our guests from
Leeds – something about “Zombies” was mentioned, together with “…Raising Hell”.
You have been warned. BEECHER make a welcome appearance after a firm Kerrang!
approval of their recent single – expect some intricate and carefully timed
interludes, sandwiched between plenty
of extreme noise terror

EVENTS SUPPORTED BY
THE PERFORMING RIGHT SOCIETY FOUNDATION
A very limited series
of free events, ‘3x3’ aims to apply the CM formula, with FREE entry, in a
celebration of Manchester’s integrated but distinctly unique mixture of genres,
attitudes and people. The aim of the series is to provide a free occasion for
punters and a no pressure platform for artists to promote themselves to a wider media and industry.
Scheduled at our
spiritual home, The Roadhouse, are the following gigs :
MANCHESTERMUSIC.CO.UK
(home to sister brands Chairsmissing and Soviet Union Records) has garnered the
support of the Performing Right Society Foundation, who have kindly enabled us
to make these events a free entry affair. All events are based out our
spiritual home, The Roadhouse, Manchester. A refreshing and inspiring gesture,
which recognizes the importance of Manchester as a breeding ground for
tomorrows artists today and a fitting move from a benevolent music industry
organization that supports grass roots activity.
There’s far too many
artists in Manchester worthy of support, but these events help us put a stamp
of approval on some of the bands that have knocked us dead recently.
